TECAST is a cast polyamide 6 produced by activated anionic polymerisation. Custom cast parts are either produced as finished parts or require minimal machining. One fundamental reason for the continuous growth of the group is without doubt the fact that the products are manufactured from completely new materials and therefore constantly find their way into new applications - applications which to date have either been impossible or have only been possible at great expense using metals and ceramics. The properties of TECAST types can be varied from tough and resilient through to hard and tough, depending on the polymerisation conditions and the choice of raw materials. Modifications with MoS2 and lubricants extend the range of applications where good sliding wear behaviour is demanded. In comparison with injection moulded and extruded material, the modified types are characterised by a higher tensile and compressive strength, higher modulus of elasticity and dimensional stability. Reasons for this are higher crystallinity and significantly higher molecular weight. The lower moisture absorption means that the mechanical properties and dimensions also change less. Further advantages are a higher abrasion resistance and lower tendency to creep under load.
